Hey there! Are you guys looking for your store logs or your audit logs in your BigCommerce store? You’re in luck! I’m going to go over that in this video.
My name is Cal. I’m a developer and a store owner just like you. Let me share my screen and show you where that is.

(00:14)
Alright, so in your BigCommerce store, you want to go into the backend and go to Settings. Scroll all the way down to the bottom, and just a little bit up from the bottom, you’ll see a section that says Store Logs, right here under the Advanced grouping.

(00:28)
When you come in here, there might not be a lot showing in this demo store I’m using, but there are two different tabs:
System Log
Staff Action Log

(00:41)
The System Log tab shows you events that weren’t triggered by a human—like apps interacting with your site. You’ll probably see a lot of activity here, such as shipping quotes from Shipper HQ.
The Staff Action Log shows events triggered by humans. It’s not going to log every single thing that everyone does, but if something major is wrong and you need to figure out, say, who logged in that day, or other specific actions, you can certainly do that here.

(01:25)
You can filter the logs by the person you want to follow up on, or use the Filter by Action search. For example, if you want to see all the people that logged in, you can search for “successfully logged in.” It will only show you login events.
If you’re trying to figure out what happened to a category that was deleted, you can copy the category name and search for it. You’ll see all the times that category was updated. If it was deleted, you should see a deletion event.

(02:04)
Now, there are some quirks to the filtering. It doesn’t record every single thing that happens. If you search for something like “updated category” (where the action, not the target, is being filtered), it may not work. But filtering by the specific target of the action should show the relevant events.

(02:41)
Hopefully, this gives you enough information to piece together what happened in your store. If this helped, please give me a like! 😄

(02:50)
One last tip—while it’s great to figure out what happened and train people not to make the same mistake again, consider using an app like Rewind. It backs up all your categories and products, allowing you to roll back changes if something goes wrong. It’s very cost-effective and highly recommended.
